Actually, having fever is considerably a ‘good’ thing. It usually goes away within a few days.
But then again, fever can make you feel uncomfortable and weak. And most of you want to be relieved from it, as soon as possible to feel better.
Usually, you would take over-the-counter antipyretic meds to stop the fever. But you should know that there are other remedies which are safer and they are just right in your kitchen.
Raisins are excellent home remedy for fever because of the presence of phenolic phytonutrients – germicidal, antibiotic and antioxidant. It is more effective when they are mixed with ginger.
Crush together 10 grams of each fresh ginger and raisins. Add the crushed mixture to 200mL water and wait for one hour.
Then, boil the mixture until only 50mL of water is left. Cool it down and drink.
Basil or known as Holy Basil or Tulsi in India, is an effective herb to reduce fever. It is known to be an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and adaptogen – helps the body respond to stress and fight disease.
It contains essential oils – eugenol, citronellol and linalool to lower inflammation.
Simply boil a handful of basil leaves in the water and drink it. You can add a teaspoon of crushed ginger or honey to add taste. Drink 2-3 times a day until you get well.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar is an effective remedy for fever because of the acid in it that helps draw heat out of the body. It is also rich in minerals that can replenish those you’ve lost due to fever.
Soak your body in a tub of water with ½ cup apple cider vinegar. Stay in the water for
5 – 10 minutes and repeat if your temperature gets high again.
Or make a mixture of one-part apple cider vinegar and two-parts cool water, then soak the wash cloth in it and place on your forehead and tummy.
Or make a drink of 2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar and one tablespoon of honey in a glass of water. Drink it 2 – 3 times a day.
Turmeric’s cucurmin, the most potent anti-inflammatory agent, has proven to control fever without any gastro-intestinal damage.
Add ½ teaspoon turmeric powder to a glass of hot milk, boil and drink before going to bed.
Or add ½ teaspoon turmeric powder to boiling water, let steep for 5 minutes, add honey to taste and drink while still warm.
Ginger has gingerol which is a highly potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory substance. It is very effective in reducing fever and curing some allergies.
There are many ways you can use ginger to benefit for your health.
Raw Ginger : Put thumb-sized ginger in your smoothie and drink every morning.
Ginger Essential Oil : This is the most effective one, 2-3 drops is the recommended therapeutic dose.
Ginger Tea : One cup 2-3 times daily to reduce inflammation. You can add some honey or lemon for great taste.
Fenugreek seeds contain quinine which is very helpful in reducing fevers. The seeds is usually taken as tea.
In 1- 2 cups of water, add fenugreek seeds and boil to make a tea. Strain the liquid and drink it.
