Aromatherapy And Essential Oils For Teenagers

In the past years, several essential oils was established in the market to improve quality of life. These were mostly marketed to adults – working and professionals.

Aromatherapy has been proven effective in all aspects — whether mental, physical, or emotional.

Often forgotten and ignored by young people, aromatherapy is for every age. Adolescents and teens are not exempted. People who are undergoing puberty will benefit a lot from aromatherapy.

For your growing teens, both male and female, the process of puberty can be quite a tricky time. With all of the hormonal levels changing, your young teen will be moody, uncomfortable and not easy to talk with.

Moreover there will be unwanted appearances of reddish, itchy and pus-filled protrusions on their once baby-smooth faces. Acne really pisses teens off everytime they look at themselves in the mirror.

The following suggested essential oils may help you and your teenager overcome some major discomforts during puberty and may assist them on some puberty-related issues.

Treatment And Essential Oils

For Skin:

Tea tree oil – this is best for acne, 2-3 drops on cotton  and apply directly to the face or mix with their facial wash and use as a cleanser

Lavender oil – for acne, apply directly on affected area and to alleviate feelings of stress, diffuse 5 drops at home or apply topically on wrists, back of neck or temples;

Geranium – skin enhancer, mix a teaspoon of coconut oil with 5 drops of geranium oil then rub on affected spot twice a day, or  mix it with facial and body wash

Clary Sage – for acne, apply 1-3 drops to the affected area; and to prevent stress, diffuse 5 drops of clary sage oil at home to help with their restlessness and insomnia

Cedarwood – reduces skin irritations, add oil to your skin lotion or soap and rub on the itchy area or add 5 drops of cedarwood oil to your bath

For Menstrual Cycle:

Roman Chamomile – analgesic and anti-spasmodic; apply 2-3 drops topically to the abdomen

Rose Oil– anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic; add a few drops of rose oil to a carrier oil such as coconut or jojoba oil and massage into your lower abdomen

For Studying :

Peppermint Oil – improves memory and increases mental focus; simply take a few whiffs of peppermint and it will perk you up

Rosemary Oil – improves memory, mix 3 drops of oilwith ½ teaspoon coconut oil and rub on upper neckor diffuse for an hour per day

For Sleep and Anxiety:

Citrus Organic Essential Oils – increase energy and relieve exhaustion; may diffuse or add to bath wash, few drops on cotton ball with coconut oil then rub on wrists, neck  and chest

Patchouli Oil – helps ease teenage anxities; 5 drops of oil to a diffuser or burner or add 10 drops of oil to a warm bath

Reminder

Take note that above suggested oils can be used in aromatherapy massage, which is another good option for teenagers to improve circulation, relax tensed muscles, improve quality of sleep and enhance mood.

As parents, it is your job to eliminate stressors from disturbing your young men and women.  Essential oils are also at their disposal for a healthier lifestyle, in addition to exercise and balanced diet of course.
