Making Natural Beauty Products With Natural Foods
Many people prefer to avoid harsh chemicals and use all natural beauty products. Some even choose to take the extra step and make beauty products out of natural ingredients found in their own kitchens. Did you know that you can turn almonds into a hand treatment or honey into a facial mask?
Long before factories were pumping out cosmetics packed with chemicals, our ancestors were maintaining lustrous hair and smooth skin the natural way, and you can, too. Instead of buying face cream, our grandmothers may have mixed 1 mashed avocado, 1 cooked and mashed carrot, 3 tablespoons of honey, 1 egg and a half cup of cream or coconut milk together to create a facial mask. Avocados provide Vitamin E, which assists with skin elasticity and youthfulness. Carrots provide beta-carotene and antioxidants to protect skin from environmental exposure.
A common fruit also provides a hardy hand scrub. Combine eight to ten strawberries in a bowl together with two tablespoons of olive or apricot oil and one teaspoon of rough salt. Mash the mixture up with your hands and it becomes a natural exfoliant for hands and feet, with the fruit acid from the strawberries aiding with rough skin.
Need a special hairdo but not that pungent hairspray smell? Mix a lemon with two cups of water in a spray bottle. This mixture is a natural hair spray that keeps hair in place without the harsh chemical. You can add some salt for extra texture.
So the next time you are in the market for beauty products, head to the fridge rather than the cosmetics aisle. Your body will be glad you did.
