Catnip, A Minty Essential Oil
Catnip oil is extracted from an herbal minty plant, botanically known as Nepeta cataria. The plant was native in Europe and in some parts of Asia, but today it grows anywhere for it can survive in any weather condition.
It is also known as Cat Mint because cats get excited by the smell of its minty aroma. It is some kind of a drug to them, that stimulates their nerves making them act crazy.

Inhalation – you can inhale catnip oil directly, from the container or by dropping enough amount on your palms
Use of Diffuser – blend with other oils — peppermint, myrrh, eucalyptus, geranium, citronella, and lemon, and placed in a diffuser, and it will help calm your body and mind
Topical Application – dilute catnip essential oil in a carrier oil and apply to affected to areas
As an Insect Repellant – Catnip oil is mixed with distilled water, witch hazel, and a carrier oil of choice. Transfer mixture on spray bottle and apply on your skin whenever needed to keep insects away.
Warnings
- It should not be used undiluted.
- Not recommended for pregnant women and children.
- Women with heavy menstruation and with pelvic inflammatory disease should avoid using catnip oil.
- Patients taking other diuretic medicines should consult physician before using catnip oil. Same with those on sedatives.
- Do not apply directly near your eyes or mucous membranes and must not be taken orally without proper guidance or a physician’s advice
