Is Reiki Real And Is It Effective?

Reiki is known to be a natural and safe spiritually-guided healing method. It originated from Japan in which the system has been passed on from several generations up to the present grandmasters.

Reiki comes from the Japanese word ‘Rei’ which means ‘Universal Life’ or ‘Higher Power’ and ‘Ki’ which means ‘Energy’.

The founder, Mikao Usui, started this form of spiritual practice because of his belief that each person’s energy is free-flowing and has relevant effects to its own physical, emotional, and mental states. With that said, if you’re energy is high, you’re in a positive state of health; and if it is low, you’re likely to experience stress and get sick.

Since then, many accepted Reiki as a complementary therapy based on the idea that everyone has the ability to connect with their own energy and use it to heal and strengthen their own selves.

Presently, Reiki healing is practiced in some centers — such as hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, and other healthcare institutions.

What is a Typical Reiki Session

The session usually lasts from an hour to 1 and ½ hours.

First, you will be asked if you have particular issues, or specific area of stress that you might be experiencing lately. Then, you will lie down on your back on a massage table or sit comfortably on a massage chair.

You will be required to wear loose and comfortable clothing.

The session can either be with light touches or totally a hands-off approach. It really depends on your preference. With light touch, the practitioner will apply a gentle pressure starting on your head or feet, avoiding all the sensitive parts.

If no actual touch, the therapist will hold her/his hands few inches above your body.

This is usually done without talking and with a soft music for ambience. If you prefer no music, then you can request it.

Expectations (as told by believers)

You may feel a slight tingling sensation as the therapist applies a little pressure on your body just like if you’re having a massage, especially on body parts which had been injured.

You may fall asleep during session.
